Art Rooney II: We don't want the Pittsburgh Steelers finishing last in the run ever again"

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a lot to fix this offseason. One of the main fixes will be in regards to the offensive line. They were good in the pass, but awful in the run. James Conner again couldn't stay healthy on the football field and that cost the Steelers. Snell and McFarland only averaged about 3.6 yards per carry and the running game was completely non-existent in Pittsburgh.

Art Rooney II on the running game in Pittsburgh: “We’ve got to be a lot better in running,” Rooney said in a call with Steelers fans on Thursday, via the team’s website. “Certainly we don’t want to see the Pittsburgh Steelers being last in the league in rushing again ever. I think it’s something our coaches are focused on and we’ll be looking for ways to improve in the draft. It’s something we’ve got to fix, and we are working on it.”

So that means Art Rooney II will be committed to fixing the run in the offseason. So far the Steelers have brought back Zach Banner, BJ Finney, and are possibly working on bringing Alejandro Villanueva back to the offensive line. There is still plenty of work to do on the offensive line. They will need a better center than BJ Finney and they will need younger tackles.

The next biggest position the Steelers need to address in the 2021 NFL draft is getting an elite prospect at the running back position. There are three elite prospects in the draft who are Najee Harris, Javonte Williams, and Travis Etienne. The problem is will the Steelers take one of those running backs in the first round? They may have to because teams like the Jets, Dolphins, Bills, and Buccaneers will be eyeing a young running back prospect.

If the Steelers pass on one in the first round they will have to wait until No. 55 to pick again. That is a long time and the possibility of one of the elite running backs being there will be slim to none. Ultimately it will be up to the Steelers to decide with any of those running backs are worth a first-round pick. I believe Najee Harris is. He would bring the physical running game back to Pittsburgh in a big way. Javonte Williams and Travis Etienne would also fit right in with the Steelers running scheme as well.
