According to Steelers spokesperson, Burt Lauten, Ben Roethlisberger will be activated to the team’s 53-man roster after passing the NFL’s required COVID-19 protocols. He will fly separate this afternoon from the team’s charter plane to Los Angeles with the expectation of starting Sunday night against the Chargers.
For players who are vaccinated and test positive, they must be asymptomatic and return two negative tests before they can return. Roethlisberger has been involved in virtual meetings all week. The Steelers scripted a plan for Mason Rudolph at quarterback just in case.
Roethlisberger was a close contact last year and missed the entire week of practice leading up to the Steelers' Week 10 game against the Bengals. And Roethlisberger managed to have one of his best games of the season and led the Steelers to a 36-10 win. Roethlisberger completed 27 of 46 passes (58.7%) for 333 yards, four touchdowns, no interceptions and had a quarterback rating of 110.1.
