Bleacher Report says the Steelers should sign Justin Houston

One of the biggest questions among much of the National Media after the 2021 NFL draft is if the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to sign any more free agents? They could be in the market for another linebacker and a cornerback. The Steelers seem to be going all-in for the 2021 season with Ben Roethlisberger and there still seems to be some holes in regards to key positions. Depth isn't looking too good for the Pittsburgh Steelers and they could be in trouble if one of their linebackers or cornerbacks go down during the 2021 season due to the lack of depth.

Bleacher Report feels the Steelers should go into free agency now and sign Justin Houston. They feel the Steelers are going all-in so they should bring him in. The Steelers did sign a first-round running back to help Ben Roethlisberger and help bring balance on the offensive side in Pittsburgh. They also managed to keep JuJu Smith-Schuster and Cam Sutton.

One issue the Steelers have is they were not able to retain Bud Dupree, but Alex Highsmith is primed to start in his position. Once again it seems like the National Media doesn't believe Highsmith will be the answer for the Steelers in 2021 and Bleacher Report says the Steelers need a complimentary pass rusher opposite TJ Watt, which is why signing a veteran like Justin Houston would make a ton of sense for the franchise.

I believe Alex Highsmith is being overlooked during the 2021 offseason and the Steelers should still give him a shot to start. It would not be a bad idea to bring in a player like Justin Houston in case Highsmith goes down like he did at the end of the 2020 season. Houston is 32 years old and right now he is currently the best pass rusher on the market. He had eight sacks and 25 quarterback pressures last season despite playing only 59 percent of the defensive snaps for the Colts according to Bleacher Report. He could be a great rotational player for the Steelers in 2021.

Pittsburgh could be an attractive option to compete for a Championship in 2021, but the Steelers currently do not have much cap. If Houston is willing to take a pay cut to come to Pittsburgh to play on a one-year deal in a shrinking market then it would be a viable option for both sides. I would still make Alex Highsmith the starter, but if he struggles or cannot stay healthy then Justin Houston would be a great backup option opposite of TJ Watt in 2021.
