No one thought the Pittsburgh Steelers were going to release their starting cornerback Steven Nelson during the 2021 offseason. Much of the media speculated that the Steelers were going to extend Nelson, but that didn't seem to be the case once the Steelers allowed Nelson to explore a trade. Once the team realized they could not find a suitable trade partner the Steelers decided it would be best for their team to release him.
During the 2021 offseason the Steelers did manage to sign Cam Sutton to a two-year deal and it seems like they prefer Sutton over Nelson. Right now the outside cornerback position opposite of Joe Haden is Cam Sutton's. He is ready to relish in the starting role for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021 too.
Cam Sutton is ready for anything in 2021: “Ready more than ever,” Sutton announced. “As far as health and just a mental aspect, I feel better than I ever felt before. Coming off of a year where you had more snaps, more opportunities, that’s just a stepping stone. Those are things to continue to build off of."
Sutton has always been able to play inside and outside as a cornerback so this will be nothing new to him, but I will say Sutton is going to be guarding some of the top wide receivers in the NFL alongside Joe Haden so that is a much bigger step up than just playing the inside slot position.
Every time Sutton did get to start when Haden went down with an injury in 2020 Sutton managed to hold his own on the field so there shouldn't be much concern with his capabilities on the football field in Pittsburgh. Sutton is ready to embrace his role as the Steelers starting cornerback in 2021.
Cam Sutton is all about winning: “I’m ready. It’s not something new. It’s not a shock to me. Whatever it entails throughout the year, it’s all about winning.”
