It's that time of year where everyone predicts what the Steelers will do in the first round of the NFL draft. This season the Steelers are limping into the NFL draft ranked close to last in the running game. Not only in regards to the running back position, but also the run protection on the offensive line too. Art Rooney II vows to fix the running game in Pittsburgh this offseason. It will be one of the focal points for Pittsburgh heading into 2021.
CBS just released their 2021 NFL Mock Draft and they have the Steelers selecting RB Najee Harris at number 24. If the Steelers land Najee it will be a tremendous first step in fixing the running game in Pittsburgh. Harris is an explosive running back who loves to make plays on the football field.
The Steelers need to beef up their offensive line, but they also need to figure out how to establish the run says CBS. Najee Harris will give the Steelers an explosive running back who can not only power the ball up the middle but catch out of the backfield. Something they haven't really done well since Le'Veon Bell was in town. Harris is often referred to as a 'Mini Derrick Henry,' in which both are near the same sizes. Henry is just slightly taller than Harris.
CBS says if Pittsburgh can find a run game, their passing offense will become much more consistent and less predictable. I have been beating the drum all offseason so far for the Steelers to take Najee Harris if he is available when the Steelers pick at 24. He is a running back you cannot pass up on if he falls to you especially in Pittsburgh. The Steelers can beef up the offensive line in the later rounds like the 2nd and 4th rounds. Steelers normally never miss when it comes to drafting offensive linemen and the offensive line talent in the 2021 NFL Draft is very deep.
