Many mock drafts have had either Travis Etienne or Najee Harris being the first coming off of the board in the 2021 NFL draft. No one has had either running back ranked below the 3rd best running back prospect going into the 2021 draft until Chris Simms released his recent running back rankings. He has Travis Etienne, Michael Carter, and Javian Hawkins ranked before Najee Harris.
Simms also has Javonte Williams ranked as the 5th best running back going into the 2021 draft. He completely decided to flip the script as everyone else thinks the top 3 running backs in the draft are Najee Harris, Travis Etienne, and Javonte Williams. Either Simms is trying to get some attention off of his recently released running back rankings or he is that crazy to think Najee and Williams are the 4th and 5th best running backs in the draft...
There is no doubt that Travis Etienne is capable of being the best running back in the 2021 NFL draft, but I think the closest running back next to him would be Najee Harris. I feel those two are the top running backs going into the draft. I feel they are the most complete running backs heading into the draft. Michael Carter is good, but he will need some work to become a more complete running back and the Steelers do not have time to wait for their running back to become well-rounded heading into what could be Ben Roethlisberger's last season with the Steelers.
The Steelers need a premier running back in the NFL draft and one who can come in to contribute right away. It has been obvious the Steelers have shown the most interest in Najee Harris so far during their pre-draft process, but they have shown Travis Etienne some love too. I think they could not go wrong if they drafted either of those two running backs in the 2021 NFL draft.
Both are capable of coming into Pittsburgh and becoming a dominant running back right away and will help give the Steelers the boost they need going forward with Ben Roethlisberger. I think Chris Simms got his rankings wrong. Maybe he should stick to ranking Quarterbacks instead of Running backs going forward...
