Could James Conner be heading to South Beach? According to longtime NFL writer and analyst John Clayton, the Dolphins are interested in pursuing James Conner in free agency. Clayton revealed the news on 93.7 The Fan in an interview with Andrew Filipponi and Chris Mueller via Bleacher Report.

Conner is set to become an unrestricted free agent next week and it's not expected that he'll be re-signed by the Steelers as he's had durability issues and has been subpar on the field.

Clayton expects Conner to receive a deal worth $3 million to $4 million per year, which sounds about right. The Dolphins have plenty of cap space to do it and are in need of a running back. Conner, however, would probably be more of a No. 2 in Miami, as they could draft Najee Harris, Travis Etienne, or Javonte Williams at 18th overall in the draft.

The Dolphins have the No. 3 and No. 18 overall picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, so I could definitely see them addressing the running back position with their second pick in the first round. Conner would be a good complementary running back for Miami, but I doubt that they have him in mind as a feature back.
