The Pittsburgh Steelers will be selecting at No. 24 in the 2021 NFL draft. There is no doubt that the Steelers will be looking to upgrade their running back position heading into the 2021 season. Art Rooney II has said changes have already begun in regards to the running game in Pittsburgh and more changes are coming. It sounds like the Steelers are going to be looking to revamp their offensive line and running back positions heading into 2021.
A good way to start the process would be to add a top running back from the 2021 NFL draft (Najee Harris, Travis Etienne, Javonte Williams) and then work on your offensive line. The Steelers can also get a center in free agency to help them fill-in holes on their roster before going into the NFL draft. It will take less pressure off of them and they can focus on other positions.
ESPN's Todd McShay has recently released his new Mock Draft for 2021. He says the Steelers will be taking RB Najee Harris in the first round. McShay says Ben Roethlisberger will be back in 2021 and it looks like James Conner is heading to free agency. The Steelers running game could use a punch. Harris is that and more, showcasing speed, size, decisiveness, and ball security as a rusher, as well as a receiver and pass protector.
McShay said the top running back on the Steelers is Benny Snell who only averaged 3.3 yards per carry in 2020. Harris averaged 6.0 over four seasons with Alabama, and his 26 touchdowns in 2020 led college football. Harris would be a major upgrade with the Pittsburgh Steelers and if he is available at No. 24 the Steelers should not hesitate to pick him up immediately.
