In seven days JuJu Smith-Schuster could be finding out what his market worth really is. It sounds like the Steelers could let him test free agency after they did not place the franchise tag on any Steeler players yesterday. It was a great 4 years with JuJu Smith-Schuster. He is a very entertaining character on and off of the football field, but there is no way the Steelers will be able to compete with what the market will offer him if he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Arthur Moats recently talked about JuJu on his podcast and asked will JuJu be back with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021? The problem Arthur Moats has with JuJu coming back to the Steelers is money. Moats questioned why an NFL player would take less money to stay with an organization when they can get more money with another? He says if he was JuJu Smith-Schuster he would not take less money from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Moats would rather be paid and he says many other guys around the league would feel the same way.
If JuJu Smith-Schuster would like to stay with the Pittsburgh Steelers for less money Moats said go for it, but he doesn't recommend it. Arthur is here to make players more money, but if they want to take less money then go for it. He also says why would JuJu want to take less money for the Steelers when the fans will eventually turn on you? It just doesn't make sense.
Moats feels like JuJu is just using PR moves on Social Media because he knows his time is up in Pittsburgh. It is like saying "I love the Pittsburgh Steelers and I want to stay a Pittsburgh Steeler, but they offered me $50 million dollars so what do you expect?" So Moats feels like JuJu is just using PR moves on social media knowing his time is up in Pittsburgh. He feels he's trying to make a clean exit with the fans.
The biggest point Moats makes during his conversation about JuJu is at the end of the day the Jersey you wear does not pay the bills. The contract you sign is what pays the bills when you're done playing. Moats is right because at the end of the day this is a business and you need to protect your future in the long run especially when you play football. One day you can walk onto the football and get injured then never play another down of football. Then what happens when you just signed a lesser contract when you could have gotten a bigger one with another team in free agency? It makes sense. At the end of the day, JuJu should take the biggest bag and run. Go get paid.
