The Steelers 2021 offseason was set to be a nightmare scenario for the organization. They could have lost JuJu Smith-Schuster, Tyson Alualu, and Cam Sutton. Somehow they managed to keep all 3 key players, but they did lose Bud Dupree, Matt Feiler, and Mike Hilton. So the Steelers offseason was going to be a bigger nightmare than how it played out which is great for their organization. Keeping Alualu, JuJu, and Sutton helped offset some of their key losses, but the Steelers are very thin with many positions going into the 2021 NFL draft.
Kevin Colbert brought up the Steelers offseason today during their pre-draft assessment and actually thanked many of the veterans for sticking with the Steelers especially during a very difficult offseason. He ended up thanking Ben Roethlisberger and said he was very appreciated and thinks Ben Roethlisberger really helped the Steelers start a positive offseason for the organization.
The reason why Colbert thanked Ben Roethlisberger is that he thinks Ben helped influence Tyson Alualu, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Vince Williams to stay in Pittsburgh. Ultimately when Ben Roethlisberger decided to restructure his current contract it helped the Steelers in a big way to help keep players like JuJu Smith-Schuster. So Kevin Colbert wanted to show his appreciation by thanking Ben for being flexible with restructuring his contract to a one-year deal in 2021.
