It was revealed today that new Steelers signee outside linebacker Melvin Ingram will wear No. 8. Ingram is the first Steeler to take advantage of the new rule that allows linebackers to wear a single-digit number. Ingram wore No. 9 in college at South Carolina and donned No. 54 with the Chargers for nine seasons.

In April, NFL owners approved a proposal that defensive backs, linebackers, running backs, fullbacks, tight ends, running backs and wide receivers would all be allowed to wear jerseys in the single digits.

It was also announced today that guard Trai Turner will wear No. 51. Turner was signed in late June after the Steelers released David DeCastro due to chronic ankle issues. Turner wore No. 70 when he was with the Panthers and Chargers. In addition, offensive tackle Chaz Green, who signed with the Steelers yesterday will wear No. 74.
