For the fourth straight day, Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert were in attendance at a pro day — Pitt, Liberty, Mississippi and Cincinnati on Thursday. The main attraction was at quarterback for each one also, which shows that the Steelers are doing a thorough study on this year's class.
To no surprise, Tomlin reportedly showed a lot of interest in Desmond Ridder today. Tomlin also took Ridder out for a steak dinner on Wednesday night.
According to Jim Nagy of the Senior Bowl, Matt Canada and Brandon Hunt were also in attendance at the Cincinnati pro day. Hunt has been with Tomlin and Colbert at every pro day this week (Hunt most likely will be Colbert's heir apparent). Including head coach Arthur Smith, the Falcons had eight members of the organization at the pro day, which suggests that Atlanta really likes Ridder.
Ridder displayed his impressive arm strength at the pro day. Check out his throw in the clip below as it rivals Willis' bomb on Tuesday.
This year's quarterback class is considered pretty weak, but the Steelers are definitely doing their due diligence. I just hope the Steelers don't draft a quarterback for the sake of it. In my opinion, Willis is the only quarterback worth trading up for, and they have too many other needs to draft a quarterback in the second round. That's when Ridder is projected to be selected.
The Steelers should just ride it out with Mitch Trubisky for a year and wait until next year to get their franchise quarterback. That would be the logical thing to do. Unless, of course, they can get Willis.
