The Pittsburgh Steelers could make some moves during the 2021 NFL draft to acquire more draft picks if they know one of their top prospects will fall to them in the first round. It would be wise to try and get more draft picks, but only if you're sure you can land a top prospect. With that being said Cynthia Frelund of NFL.com feels it would be a win-win situation if the Steelers traded with the Green Bay Packers in the 2021 NFL draft.
Frelund says the Packers would send their No. 29 pick (first-round pick) and No. 92 pick (third-round pick) for the Steelers No. 24 (first-round pick) and No. 140 (fourth-round pick). That could potentially give the Steelers early-round picks in the 2021 NFL draft, but if I were the Steelers I would try to get an extra pick if I were to trade back because the Steelers only have eight draft picks in the 2021 NFL draft.
Ultimately it would cost the Packers to drop 48 picks to move up 5 spots in the first round of the draft. Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reported that “many teams” have only 14-17 players rated as first-round caliber prospects this year. That would mean if the Steelers are comfortable they could trade back and try to gain draft capital while still getting a top prospect.
Anything can happen in the 2021 NFL draft, but if the Steelers were to trade back and gain more draft capital that would be a Steeler move I could see happening especially if Kevin Colbert would like to offset some key players they lost during the 2021 offseason. It should be interesting to see what the Steeles plan on doing on the first night of the NFL draft. It would be an extra bonus if the Steelers can land one of their top prospects and gain extra draft capital.
