Steelers vice president of football and business administration, Omar Khan, has an interview with the Bears on Monday for their general manager position. It was reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN on Jan. 12 that the Bears requested permission to interview Khan.
Khan's name has been frequently mentioned for a general manager position in the last several years. Khan has been highly regarded as a cap guru during his 21 seasons with the Steelers organization, as he always finds a way to maneuver the salary cap.
Khan would be a big loss if he gets hired by the Bears, as he plays a crucial role in the Steelers' front office. It also wouldn't come at good timing, as Steelers' general manager Kevin Colbert is expected to retire after the 2022 NFL Draft.
Steelers pro scouting coordinator Brandon Hunt and Khan are the top internal candidates to replace Colbert. Colbert has been the head of football operations for the Steelers since 2000.
