The Steelers will be heading into the 2021 season with -$26 million in cap space. They will have some tough decisions to make going into the offseason. Those decisions have already started, but they will not be made official until March 17th. ESPN has predicted the top landings spots for some of the biggest Steeler free agents. Bud Dupree to the Tenessee Titans, JuJu Smith-Schuster to the New York Jets, and Alejandro Villanueva to the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Steelers will have 19 unrestricted free agents this offseason. Pro Football Focus feels the Steelers should let Bud Dupree go as well as JuJu Smith-Schuster. Another shocking cut PFF says the Steelers should make is Vince Williams. Not sure I agree with that. Williams is one of the play callers on the defensive side of the ball and cutting him would only save $4 million.
One way the Steelers could get out of their cap situation is by restructuring Ben Roethlisberger's contract, cut Vince Williams, and have Pouncey retire. That would help the Steelers gain control of their cap situation.
Pro Football Focus feels the Steelers should go after Center Austin Reiter, CB Mike Hilton, CB Cam Sutton, and OT Kelvin Beachum. No matter what happens this offseason the Steelers will need a center in the draft or free agency. It might be wise to get a free agent center through free agency than the draft. That way the Steelers can focus on more pressing issues like the running back, offensive line, and quarter back position in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Steelers will have to get creative during the 2021 offseason.
