Pro Football Focus mocks the Steelers Selecting OT Tevin Jenkins from Oklahoma State

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be limping into the 2021 NFL draft with their porous offensive line and running game. They finished dead last in the running game in 2020. Art Rooney II says he is committed to bringing back the running game to Pittsburgh like we all know and love. In many mock drafts throughout the 2021 offseason, many draft analysts have either an offensive lineman or a running back going to the Steelers in the first round.

If there is a run on offensive tackles in the first round then I would go with an elite running back. It is hard to predict what most NFL teams will decide to do going into the 2021 NFL draft, but normally top offensive linemen are picked through by the time they come to the No. 24 pick, but the good news is the offensive line position is very deep in the 2021 NFL draft and it couldn't have come at a better time for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pro Football Focus has just released their latest mock draft and they have the Steelers selecting offensive tackle Tevin Jenkins from Oklahoma State in the first round.

"We rarely advocate for pigeonholing yourself in a position, but given the Steelers' roster and contract situations, they pretty much have to go offensive line. They’re in luck because Jenkins is as mean as they come at tackle, he earned a 93.6 run-blocking grade last year."

The Steelers do not necessarily have to go offensive line in the first round. Normally the Steelers will pick the best available player when they draft, but reaching for an offensive lineman just because of need normally doesn't pan out well. Yes, the Steelers need all the help they can get on the offensive line, but if you could either trade back for another draft pick that could be another possibility. Again the offensive line position is extremely deep in the 2021 NFL draft and I feel like the Steelers should do their homework and if there is a premier first-round offensive lineman available with their pick then take it, but do not reach for one just because you feel you need to in the first round.

Pro Football Network projects Tevin Jenkins to be a Day 2 or 3 draft pick for teams like the Steelers, Jets, Colts, and Rams.
