The Pittsburgh Steelers look to be bringing back Ben Roethlisberger for the 2021 season. It is unclear how long his contract will extend through, but the Steelers must start looking for their future quarterback. Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin have a tall task on their hand and I hope it doesn't take them 20 years to find a quarterback as it did with Terry Bradshaw.
Pro Football Focus recently released an article Ranking every NFL team's QB situation by need. They said the Pittsburgh Steelers are a team that is very high that needs a quarterback as soon as possible. Big Ben had only one game with a PFF grade above 80.0 in 2020 and finished the season ranked as the 24th quarterback in the NFL (69.0 grade). They said Ben's downfield passing was inconsistent, as he produced the sixth-worst uncatchable pass rate when targeting the sticks.
The signs of Ben Roethlisberger declining began in 2018 according to Pro Football Focus. He looked rough in his lone start in 2019 before his elbow injury. They feel Ben Roethlisberger will not be any better coming into 2021 than he was in 2020. Pro Football Focus has predicted that Ben Roethlisberger is going to limit the offense and continue to decline in his 18th season.
