It has been a dramatic offseason surrounding Ben Roethlisberger. The funny part is Ben isn't the one creating the drama this time around... The media is. There were many hurdles the Steelers have to take before they can even get to the negotiation stage with Ben Roethlisberger. One of those is to find out what the Cap will be by the NFL, if Ben will renegotiate (he has said he will), and if Pittsburgh wants him back in Pittsburgh (Art Rooney II wants him back). At this point, it's time to negotiate. The cap floor is $180 million set by the NFL.
Stephen A. Smith recently took on the Ben Roethlisberger conversation recently on First Take. He says he believes it is the absence of a running game in Pittsburgh at this point. The Steelers have had the bottom 3 rushing attack in the last 3 years Smith said. It is unthinkable to think how bad the running game has been for an organization like the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Smith says the Steeler's only option is Ben Roethlisberger because what else do they have? Mason Rudolph or Dwayne Haskins? Smith said his response to both of them is 'HELL NO.' He continued to say 'No way in Hell should that be the case in Pittsburgh to play Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins.'
Ben Roethlisberger is prone to making a couple of mistakes especially when you have a quarterback throwing the ball 50 times! Stephen said Ben still has thrown for nearly 4,000 yards with 33 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and completed over 60% of his passes. At this point, Ben Roethlisberger makes enough big plays to get the job done.
