After a 3.5-sack performance against the Ravens in Week 13, T.J. Watt surpassed Myles Garrett as the favorite to win NFL Defensive Player of the Year. It was the first time this season that Watt had the best odds to win DPOY. Watt has 16 sacks on the season and is knocking on the door to break Michael Strahan's NFL single-season sack record of 22.5 sacks (2001). However, Garrett is not that far behind with 15 sacks. In the Browns win over the Ravens on Sunday, Garrett recorded a strip-sack, where he also scooped the ball up and scored a touchdown.
With the big performance against the Ravens and Watt leaving the game against the Vikings early due to a groin injury, Garrett has moved to co-favorite for DPOY alongside Watt at +300, according to Sports Betting Dime.
Cowboys inside linebacker Micah Parsons will for sure be the rookie DPOY, but after a two-sack performance against Washington on Sunday, he now has the third-best odds for NFL DPOY at +400. One of Parson's sacks against Washington resulted in a scoop-and-score by Dorance Armstrong. On the season, Parsons has an incredible 12 sacks. Remember, Parsons is an inside linebacker, he's not rushing the quarterback on almost every play.
Parson's teammate, cornerback Trevon Diggs, leads the league in interceptions with nine and has the fourth-best odds for NFL DPOY at +1000. Patriots outside linebacker Matthew Judon is tied with Diggs at +1000 odds. However, with four games remaining, it appears to be a three way battle between Watt, Garrett and Parsons for NFL DPOY.
