The Pittsburgh Steelers are starting to shore up the quarterback position knowing Ben Roethlisberger is going to retire any day now. Today the organization has taken steps to keep Dwayne Haskins on their roster for the 2022 season.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN is reporting the Steelers have indicated that they will place the restricted free-agent tender on Dwayne Haskins for around $2.5 million. If any team would like to sign Dwayne Haskins from the Pittsburgh Steelers then that team would have to give up a first round pick to the Steelers. The reason is the original round tender costs roughly half of what the first-round tender would, but because he was originally a first-round pick, any team wishing to sign him would cost them a first round pick according to Dan Graziano.
Dwayne Haskins recently took to his Instagram saying he "appreciates Pittsburgh for the great learning experience this year was. Can't wait to make the most of this next opportunity. All I ever needed was a chance." It appears Haskins was told he would be with the Pittsburgh Steelers heading into the 2022 season and he is looking for the opportunity to compete for the starting quarterback position in 2022.
