There have been many twists and turns in regards to the JuJu Smith-Schuster saga in recent days. He has been adamant about staying with the Pittsburgh Steelers... All JuJu wanted was for the Steelers to start communicating with him. Well, it looks like he has gotten his wish in recent days. Rapoport has said the Steelers are trying to keep JuJu Smith-Schuster. They're also communicating with him said Ian of NFL Network.
Ian Rapoport on the Steelers talking with JuJu Smith-Schuster: "They're talking, the Steelers are trying, it's just when a player is going to have such a good market somewhere else, the team doesn't feel like they can re-sign him."
That is good news to hear for the JuJu Smith-Schuster fans. The problem is going to be the cap situation. Now one thing Rapoport did say is he feels JuJu Smith-Schuster could take a one-year deal. This is in line with what John Clayton has been saying in regards to free agents taking a lesser-term deal this offseason because the market has dropped. Now Rapoport was not specific that JuJu would take a one-year deal with Pittsburgh he just suggested he could take a one-year deal then take even more money the following season since he has had his ups and downs. It would be more of a prove-it year.
If JuJu were to take a one-year deal Rapoport says he predicts it would be one-year for $10 million. The Steelers could make it happen, but they do have some big holes to fill. At this point, it sounds like both sides are mutual on not separating just yet, but it would be shocking if they got a deal done. Rapoport says there is about a 10 percent chance of re-signing him and the Steelers will need to do some cap gymnastics to make it work.
