It looks like the Steelers are looking for their next featured running back in the 2021 NFL draft. It makes sense because the Steelers running game finish the 2020 season dead last in the run. They're looking to give Ben Roethlisberger a new best friend in the backfield so they can stop making Ben Roethlisberger throw 50 times a game. It's surprising Ben Roethlisberger's arm didn't fall off after the Cleveland Browns playoff game.
So far the Steelers have met with running backs Najee Harris, Travis Etienne, and now we can add one more to their list. The Steelers met with Memphis Running back Kenneth Gainwell today according to one of our good buddies Nick Farabaugh.
Pro Football Network thinks the Memphis Tigers have turned into a running back factory. A familiar name Antonio Gibson for the Washington Football team had himself a season in 2020. Another running back from Memphis who likes to model his game after Alvin Kamara is set to hit the 2021 NFL draft. Gainwell is an explosive running back who is solid in the passing game. He loves to be creative when running the football. He loves to make his opponents miss him when he is in the open field.
Even Kevin Schrager has listed Kenneth Gainwell as one of the top wild-card prospects going into the 2021 NFL draft. He says Gainwell is as shifty as they come. Although he is leaving his Sophomore season with Memphis many teams are showing a lot of interest in him. Gainwell has great vision on the football field and can burst through the hole at top speed. Schrager says he thinks Gainwell will be starting on third-down packages and definitely making plays in the 2021 season. Kenneth Gainwell is projected to be either a second-round or third-round draft pick in the 2021 NFL draft.
