The tampering phase has officially opened up and it was no surprise it would be a grim day for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Normally the Steelers aren't big in free agency anyways, but the best news of the day was they locked up Cam Sutton to a two-year deal. Other than that it looks like many players are on their way out of Pittsburgh.
Bud Dupree is signing with the Titans on a massive five-year deal worth $85 million dollars. His predicted market value was accurate. Bud looks to be excited about his new deal and many Steelers fans, as well as players, wished him goodbye. Matt Feiler is signing with the Chargers on a three-year deal worth $21 million dollars. That is a big deal for Feiler who I thought the Steelers would have interest in bringing back, but definitely not at that price. The Steelers have shown interest in bringing him back because he is a versatile tackle on the offensive line. Feiler can play both left and right tackle. He will now be gone.
JuJu Smith-Schuster looks to be on his way out according to Mike Garafolo. He says JuJu is telling teammates he is likely gone from Pittsburgh. Although the Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger wanted him back it looks like there is thought to be 'no chance' the Steelers can bring him back. Mike Hilton looks to be drawing attention from the Bengals. Out of all the teams, Hilton can draw attention from it looks like the Bengals are big players for him. It will be interesting to see if the Bengals can keep Hilton in the AFC North. I certainly hope they fail miserably in trying to get Mike Hilton.
Another bright spot for the Steelers is it looks like Zach Banner will be back with the Steelers in 2021. Banner said he would not come back onto social media until he gets a new contract. That changed yesterday with a Rock gif. Dale Lolley has also reported the Steelers are indeed closing in on a deal with Zach Banner and it should be announced as soon as today. The Steelers have also shown interest in bringing Villanueva back, but their numbers have been far off and it looks like he could possibly walk unless their numbers start coming closer together. I would let him walk. He did not look good most of the 2020 season.
Vince Williams put out a tweet saying he hears the streets calling him. Many people said if they're calling for him then he needs to hang up. I chuckled when reading that on Twitter. Could the Steelers have asked him to take a pay cut? If Williams refuses it looks like the Steelers could cut him just like they did with James Harrison when he refused to take a $3 million dollar pay cut. Harrison eventually signed with the Bengals after he was cut from the Steelers. Williams is due $7 million in 2021 and if the Steelers cut him they save $4 million. There is much speculation about what they will do in regards to Vince Williams who has been a reliable linebacker for the organization.
It was a very grim day for the Steelers yesterday and it looks to only be the beginning in free agency because the Steelers do not have much cap. My question is why haven't the Steelers restructured Stephon Tuitt and Chris Boswell's contracts yet? Why haven't they made a new deal with Joe Haden or extended Steven Nelson? There is plenty of options for the organization to get more cap, but they seem to be silent.
